Once upon a time, we quit our corporate jobs, strapped on back packs and together we went to see the world. We ate steak and frites in London, pasta in Italian cafes, crepes on the streets of Paris, and meats and cheeses in tiny Spanish bars. We wandered without a plan, enjoying the peace of a slower world, savoring the feeling of unhurried time, dreamily chattering about someday opening a restaurant of our own.

Time passed, and eight months later we returned to the States in search of jobs and a new start.

With fruitless job searches, Jeff took me for pizza one night. We sat quietly, smelling the soft aroma of freshly cooked pizza from the brick oven—melting cheese, roasting vegetables, fresh bread, fire, smoke. Within a few minutes, Jeff stared over at me.

“Soooo…” he said, holding a long “o” and tapping his fork flat against the table. “I’ve decided I know what I want to do with my life.”

My face softened. I was curious.

“I’ve decided I want to open a restaurant,” he said.

It was just supposed to be a dream—opening a restaurant. It was never supposed to actually happen. But still, Jeff knew what he wanted: a restaurant that would bring back the made-from-scratch flavors and dishes we had enjoyed in our adventures. He wanted to make a cozy neighborhood spot—one that could become a part of the community by serving up homemade delicious food and drink in a comfortable, down-to-earth place. About a year later, the awning went up, and a door opened to a little European Gastropub, Crepe Cellar Kitchen & Pub.

It’s been over a decade, and now the two of us are both dedicated to building our dream together. Our company now consists of Crepe Cellar Kitchen & Pub, Growlers Pourhouse, Haberdish, Reigning Doughnuts and a new concept called Supperland – which resides in a mid-century church that we’ve restored in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood of Charlotte, NC. It opened at the beginning of 2021.

Thank you for visiting us here online, and thank you for all the visits you’ve made over the years. Our entire team is grateful to have you as part of our community. We’ve built these restaurants for you, and they’re still here because of you.
